As I’ve mentioned before I have been teased my whole life about my red hair. It’s not all bad though, I get a lot of compliments too. My kids have a version of Red hair that is what I call strawberry blonde.
My son’s take on it is that his hair color is great. He said he would dye his hair like all the other teens if his hair wasn’t such a nice color to start with. He is almost conceited when it comes to his hair. I say good for him!
Now my daughter tells me some of her friends call her a “Ginger.” I’ve been called “ginger before but what is “A Ginger?” My daughter says it’s someone who has red hair, freckles and usually blue eyes. Has anyone heard of “being a Ginger?” Just curious
(I’d post my daughters picture but she would kill me. She forbids me to blog about her but this really is not about her)
Am I a Ginger ?
Hey there … Ive read a few of your blog lines – its great you write about being a redhead! I am a redhead as well – but I actually color my hair even more red – it looks amazing.
A “Ginger” is a slang term that came to be from the UK. In the UK the newspapers some years ago gave the term, “Ginger” to all redheads. They do mean it in a -bad- way in the UK, and there is “Gingerism / Gingerist” (and is considered racism in the UK), but the term never caught on here in the US. I think its just because more people are forgiving here, then there. I see nothing wrong with the term, and tend to use the line, “Ur just jealous.” ;-P
Many Many Many strong women through history, from the UK became leaders, even in the old times when women could not be seen as that way, AND they had red hair. haha They have also found that people with Red Hair grow up and become successful people older in life, because they put up with crap as a youngster. In this day and age – Flaunt it … Brunettes are jealous and blondes get teased enough as it is, and just dont care … so thats why they pick on reds.
Brunettes can be bitter in general anyway, they get no attention.
